French consumer confidence improved slightly in November

According to the report from INSEE, the consumer confidence index rose to 83 points in November, as expected, compared with 82 points in October. Despite the increase, the index remains below its long-term average (100 between January 1987 and December 2021).

The data also showed that the index, which reflects the balance of household opinions about their future financial situation, increased by 2 points. As for the balance of opinions regarding their past financial situation, the corresponding index also increased by 2 points. In November, the opinion of households regarding the current (+3 points) and future ability (+5 points) to save also improved. Meanwhile, the indicator reflecting the share of households who believe that the standard of living in France has improved over the past twelve months has not changed relative to October.

As for the inflationary situation, the index, reflecting the share of households that believe that prices will rise over the next twelve months, decreased by 3 points, but remained significantly above its long-term average. The share of households that believe that prices have increased over the past twelve months has continued to rise: the corresponding index rose by 4 points, and approached the highest level since the summer of 2008.
