French consumer confidence declined more than forecast in June

According to the report from INSEE, consumer confidence deteriorated again in June, recording the sixth monthly decline in a row, and reaching the lowest level since July 2013. The consumer confidence index fell to 82 points from 85 points in May (revised from 86 points). Economists had expected a decline to 84 points. The long-term average value of the index is 100 points.

The data also showed that the index reflecting the balance of household opinions regarding their past financial situation fell by 2 points, while the indicator assessing the balance of opinions regarding the future personal financial situation decreased by 1 point. Meanwhile, the index, which reflects the share of households who believe that now is a good time to make large purchases, fell by 5 points and remained well below its long-term average. As for the balance of households' opinions regarding their ability to save in the future, the corresponding index decreased by 5 points.

INSEE reported that the index, which reflects the share of households who believe that the standard of living in France has improved over the past twelve months, fell by 7 points and remained well below its long-term average. The share of households who believe that the standard of living in France will improve in the next twelve months has also decreased - the corresponding index fell by 4 points.

As for the inflationary situation, the index reflecting the share of households that believe that price growth will accelerate in the next twelve months decreased by 4 points, but remained well above the long-term average.
