During today's Asian trading, the US dollar declined slightly against major currencies after almost unchanged yesterday.

The US Dollar Currency Index (DXY), which tracks the dynamics of the dollar against six currencies (euro, swiss franc, yen, canadian dollar, pound sterling and swedish krona) declined by 0.10%. On Monday, the index fell by 0.05%.

The euro consolidated against the US dollar, while market participants analyzed statistics on Germany. Data published by GfK Group showed that the consumer sentiment index for July fell to -27.4 points compared to -26.2 points in June (revised from -26.0 points). Thus, the index reached a new record low (since 1991). However, the index was higher than the economists' forecast (-27.6 points). "The ongoing Russian-Ukrainian conflict and disruptions in supply chains are the reasons for higher energy and food prices. All this causes an increase in the cost of living and negatively affects consumer sentiment," said Rolf Bürkl, GfK consumer expert.

Experts note that the currency market may be subject to volatility this week, as fund managers rebalance their portfolios ahead of the end of the 2nd quarter and 1st half of the year on Thursday.
