The European Central Bank's (ECB) chief economist Philip Lane stated on Wednesday that the ECB should begin hiking its interest rates in the third quarter. However, he added that the exact speed of subsequent policy moves after September is to be decided depending on the economy. The uncertainty about the war and inflation calls for optionality, flexibility and gradualism, Lane noted.
