On Monday, China's Ministry of Commerce threatened to resolutely take reciprocal countermeasures against the countries that make trade deals with the U.S. at the expense of Beijing's interests. "China is determined and capable of safeguarding its own rights and interests," the ministry stressed.
The Chinese Commerce Ministry made this statement in response to recent reports from multiple foreign media revealing that the Trump administration intends to pressure other countries in reciprocal tariff negotiations to convince them to restrict trade with China in exchange for U.S. tariff exemptions. It called the U.S. tariff actions the pursuit of hegemonic politics and unilateral bullying in the economic and trade fields under the guise of reciprocity, adding that "appeasement cannot bring peace, and compromise cannot earn one respect."
According to the ministry, China is willing to strengthen solidarity and coordination with all parties, work together to resist unilateral bullying, safeguard its legitimate rights and interests, and defend international fairness and justice.
