Eurozone GDP grew in line with forecasts in the 4th quarter

Preliminary data published by Eurostat showed that the eurozone economy expanded by 0.3% in the 4th quarter after growing by 2.3% in the 3rd quarter (revised from +2.2%). Economists also expected an increase by 0.3%.

Meanwhile, for the whole of 2021, the gross domestic product of the eurozone increased by 5.2% compared to 2020.

In annual terms, eurozone GDP grew by 4.6% in the 4th quarter after an increase by 3.9% in the 3rd quarter. Economists had expected a 4.7% increase in GDP.

Eurostat reported that among the EU member states, the largest growth compared to the previous quarter was recorded in Spain (+2.0%), Portugal (+1.6%) and Sweden (+1.4%). The decrease was registered in Austria (-2.2%), Germany (-0.7%) and Latvia (-0.1%).
