European Central Bank president Christine Lagarde stated on Friday that the euro area's wage numbers for the fourth quarter of 2023 were obviously encouraging. However, she added that the ECB needs to be more confident that the disinflationary process is sustainable. The ECB's boss emphasised that the first-quarter wage data, due out in May, will be especially important for the ECB.
Lagarde also noted that the ECB is independent of moves by other central banks.
