According to the report from the European Automobile Manufacturers Association (ACEA), new passenger car registration increased in August, partially offsetting the July drop, and breaking a 13-month decline.
The data showed that passenger car registrations increased by 4.4% per annum, to 650,305 units. In July, passenger car registrations fell by 10.4% per annum.
ACEA reported that all four major EU markets recorded an increase, with the largest increase recorded in Italy (+9.9% per annum). Passenger car registrations in Spain and France increased by 9.1% per annum and 3.8% per annum, respectively. Meanwhile, Germany reported an increase in car sales by 3.0% per annum.
Since the beginning of this year (through August), passenger car registrations in the EU have fallen by 11.9% per year, to about 6 million units. As for the main EU markets, car sales in Italy decreased by 18.4% per annum, while France recorded a drop of 13.8% per annum. Meanwhile, car sales in Germany and Spain decreased by 9,8% per annum and 9.4% per annum, respectively.
