Manu Raju, CNN's chief congressional correspondent tweeted that U.S. House speaker Kevin McCarthy told CNN that the sides are still "far apart" on debt ceiling talks. "Seems like they [the White House] want a default more than a deal," he added. McCarthy also said that the representatives of the Biden administration "aren't talking anything serious" at negotiations. "It doesn't seem to me yet they want a deal, it just seems like they want to look like they are in a meeting," he said.
In addition, the speaker noted that they need a deal by "this weekend” in order “to have a timeline to be able to pass it in both houses."
