The Conference Board reported on Tuesday its U.S. consumer confidence fell
1.9 points to 107.1 in January 2023 from an upwardly revised 109.0 (from 108.3)
in December 2022.
Economists had forecast consumer confidence to improve to 109.0.
The details of the survey showed that the January decline in the
headline index reflected a drop in the expectations index (-5.6
points to 77.8 this month) that was partly offset by an advance in the present
situation index (+3.5 points to 150.9).
