The European Commission (EC) reported on Friday its flash estimate revealed
the consumer confidence indicator for the Eurozone edged down 0.1 point to -8.5
in January 2022 from a revised -8.4 (from -8.3) in the previous month. This was
the lowest reading since March (-10.8).
Economists had forecast the index to decrease to -9.0 early this month.
Considering the European Union (EU) as a whole, the consumer sentiment
indicator declined by 0.4 points to -10.0 in January.
Given this month’s drops, both indicators are
well below their pre-pandemic levels, approaching their long-term averages.
