Data published by the European Automobile Manufacturers' The Association (ACEA), showed that the number of passenger car registrations in the European Union fell again in December, recording the sixth monthly drop in a row.
According to the report, in December, the number of passenger car registrations amounted to 795,295 units, which is 22.8% less than in November.
Most markets reported a drop in the number of passenger car registrations, with the largest declines recorded in Italy (-27.5%), Germany (-26.9%), Spain (-18.7%) and France (-15.1%). Meanwhile, an increase compared to November was recorded in Bulgaria, Croatia, Latvia and Slovenia.
The data also showed that by the end of 2021, the number of passenger car registrations in the EU amounted to 9.7 million units, a decrease of 2.4% compared to 2020. The drop was mainly due to the shortage of semiconductors, which negatively affected the production of cars. Meanwhile, compared to 2019 (before the outbreak of the pandemic), the total number of registered cars in the EU fell by 3.3 million.
