US Treasury bond yields rose slightly

The yield of US Treasury bonds shows a weak increase on Monday, while market participants are preparing for the publication of US inflation data and a speech by Fed Chairman Powell.

The yield on 10-year Treasury bonds rose by 0.5 basis points, reaching 1.774%, while the yield on 30-year bonds was 2.128% (+1.2 basis points).

Special attention of investors will be attracted by the semi-annual report on monetary policy of Fed Chairman Jerome Powell, which will be presented tomorrow at 15:00 GMT.

Meanwhile, the US consumer price index for December will be released on Wednesday at 13:30 GMT. The CPI is expected to rise by 0.4% over the month and by 7% per annum. Economists note that stronger-than-expected growth may force the Fed to raise rates earlier than currently forecast, and given the possibility of three or four rate hikes this year, and three more hikes next year, the rate could reach 2%. Meanwhile, the yield on 10-year Treasury bonds may rise to 3%, which, according to experts, could help to cope with inflation.

Today at 15:00 GMT, the United States will announce a change in wholesale inventories for November, and at 16:30 GMT auctions for the sale of 13-week and 26-week bills will take place.
