US Treasury bond yields fall amid concerns about the Omicron strain

The yield on US Treasury bonds has declined moderately, as investors are monitoring the development of the situation around the Omicron strain.

The yield on 10-year Treasury bonds fell by 2.7 basis points, reaching 1.375%, while the yield on 30-year bonds was 1.792% (-2.5 basis points).

Global stock markets and oil prices fell sharply on Monday amid the reintroduction of some Covid-19-related restrictions in Europe.

The World Health Organization said that due to the Omicron strain, the number of cases doubles in 1.5-3 days in areas with local distribution, and UK officials said that additional restrictions are possible due to Covid-19. Pfizer said on Friday that the pandemic could last until 2023.

New York Federal Reserve President John Williams said on Friday that investors are very focused on Fed policy, but Covid is still the biggest event in the global economy.
