Eurozone consumer price index growth accelerated to 4.9% in November

Data published by the Eurostat showed that in November, the eurozone consumer price index growth accelerated to 4.9% per annum - the highest value since July of 1991 - from 4.1% in October. The latest change coincided with the forecasts and confirmed the preliminary assessment. In November 2020, the CPI decreased by 0.3% per annum. On a monthly basis, consumer prices rose by 0.4% in November compared with +0.8% in October. Economists had expected a 0.5% increase.

Meanwhile, the core CPI - excluding food and energy - rose by 2.6% per annum in November after an increase by 2.0% in October. Economists also expected an increase by 2.6%. 

Eurostat reported that in November, the catalysts for accelerating annual inflation were energy prices (+2.57%), followed by services (+1.16%), non-energy industrial goods (+0.64%), as well as food, alcohol and tobacco. (+0,49%).

As for the EU countries, the lowest annual inflation was recorded in Malta (2.4%), Portugal (2.6%) and France (3.4%), while the highest annual rates were recorded in Lithuania (9.3%). %), Estonia (8.6%) and Hungary (7.5%).
