The UK's prime minister (PM) Boris Johnson told his cabinet on Tuesday morning that a “huge spike” of the Omicron cases is coming. He also stated that the measures of the so-called "plan B" are seen to be "balanced and proportionate" and should help to reduce transmission while the booster program is ramped-up.
Meanwhile, Professor Chris Whitty, the UK government’s chief medical adviser, who also addressed the cabinet this morning, noted that it is still too early to conclude how severe the Omicron variant is, but, he added, a "significant increase" in hospitalizations can be expected as cases grow. According to Whitty, cases doubling time still every two to three days.
