Commenting on the latest study results released this morning, Pfizer's (PFE) CEO Albert Bourla said in an interview with CNBC that three doses of the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine against the Omicron variant are equivalent to two doses of the vaccine against other strains, while two doses may still protect against severe disease.
However, he noted that additional data is needed to see how long the Omicron variant is covered by the third dose but added that he doesn't expect to see a significant change between the final results and today's update. Every dose of vaccine on top of the previous one increases protection, Pfizer's CEO said. He also suggested that, eventually, a fourth dose may be needed.
According to Bourla, his company continues to conduct studies against the Omicronand updated study results are to come soon.
