Chinese government advisers said that in order to expand the opportunities for structural reforms, the authorities should consider reducing their target range of GDP growth for next year.
These recommendations were presented on the eve of the Central Economic Working Conference, which will be attended by the President of China and other key politicians.
The advisers recommended setting a target for GDP growth for 2022 in the range of 5%-5.5%, which is lower than the target for the current year (above 6%).
One of the advisers said that in 2022 it will be necessary to maintain economic stability, adding that counter-cyclical policies will help to cope with economic pressure.
Meanwhile, another adviser noted that the target for 2022 should be above 5%.
Senior officials usually approve the growth target at the December meeting, which is then publicly announced at the opening of the annual meeting of parliament in March.
