Bank of Japan’s Suzuki hinted at the possibility of completing programs to combat the pandemic

Bank of Japan board member Hitoshi Suzuki said that against the background of an improvement in the situation in the corporate finance segment, the Central Bank in March 2020 may complete financing programs to combat the pandemic.

It is expected that the issue of the future of these programs will be considered at the next meeting of the Bank of Japan, which will be held on December 17.

Suzuki noted that he has not yet made a decision on these programs, but added that there is evidence of a clear improvement in financing conditions in response to government support measures and the intervention of the Bank of Japan to mitigate the economic consequences of the pandemic.

Suzuki reported that the narrowing of the spread on numerous bonds indicates more favorable financing conditions, especially for large companies.

"Thus, the support programs that were a temporary measure to combat the impact of the pandemic should be completed soon," Suzuki said.
