EUR declined against most of its major counterparts in the European session on Wednesday, as investors digested mostly weaker-than-anticipated economic data out of the Eurozone.
The latest slew of surveys of factory activity from IHS Markit revealed that many of the regional manufacturing PMIs saw downward revisions to the preliminary figures, which were released earlier this month, with the Eurozone Manufacturing PMI coming in at 58.4 compared to from a flesh estimate of 58.6. The latest reading signaled the second-slowest growth in the euro area manufacturing sector since February. In addition, Germany’s October retail sales data disappointed, showing an unexpected drop of 0.3 percent m-o-m. On a y-o-y basis, the eurozone's largest economy recorded a bigger-than-expected fall of 2.9 percent m-o-m in retail sales.
The single European currency also remained capped by expectations that the ECB would raise its interest rates later than other major central banks and coronavirus-related concerns.
EUR appreciated CNY and JPY, but fell against the rest of major rivals.
