Data published by the Federal Employment Agency showed that in November, the unemployment rate (seasonally adjusted) fell to 5.3% from 5.4% in October. Economists had expected unemployment to remain at 5.4%.
Meanwhile, the number of unemployed fell in November for the seventh month in a row - by 34,000 after falling by 40,000 in the previous month (revised from -39,000). The number of unemployed was expected to decrease by 25,000. The total number of unemployed was 2.428 million - the lowest value since March 2020.
The data also showed that in November the number of registered vacancies was 808,000, an increase of 208,000 over the same period in 2020.
