Data published by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders Limited (SMMT) showed that last month, the volume of car production decreased by 41.4% per annum, to 64,729 units, after a decrease of 41.5% per annum in September. The SMMT reported that the decline in production has been observed for the fourth month in a row. adding that the October result was the weakest for this period since 1956. The reason for the decline in production in October was a shortage of semiconductors, which caused production to stop.
The report also showed that in October, the production of electric vehicles and hybrid cars increased by 17.5% per annum, to 8,454 units. In general, more than 50,000 such cars have been produced since the beginning of the year.
