The CNBC reported, citing the Bild's Wednesday article, that Germany's incoming coalition government, which is expected to take office next month, rejected the proposition of the outgoing chancellor Angela Merkel to impose a coronavirus lockdown in the country.
In the wake of surging Covid cases in Germany, Merkel reportedly called for a two-week lockdown starting on Thursday during her meeting with the new coalition leaders on Tuesday. But they opposed the idea, arguing that it would have been considered by the population as a “bad political trick”. Instead, the officials preferred to wait and see whether earlier announced stricter restrictions would help reduce infections.
