ECB's Governing Council member Jens Weidmann: Monetary policy should not commit to its current very expansionary stance for too long

The ECB's Governing Council member Weidmann said on Friday that the policymakers should not ignore the risk of too high inflation.

He also added that the monetary policy should not commit to its current very expansionary stance for too long. If required to safeguard price stability, Weidmann continued, the monetary policy as a whole will have to be normalized.

In his opinion, inflation rates will probably take longer than previously projected to recede, and the pandemic could have a marked impact on inflation setting that, in turn, could mean that inflation won't fall below the ECB's target in the medium-term.
