EU’s commissioner for economics and taxation Paolo Gentiloni still sees a danger for an economic rebound in Europe coming from new variants of the coronavirus.
In his opinion, it’s “too soon to declare victory” over the Covid pandemic, despite solid GDP forecasts for this year.
“It’s still the pandemic,” Gentiloni said when asked about the major risk to the EU's economy, adding that the society should be "very cautious on possible new variants".
Gentiloni also urged to "strengthen vaccination” and suggested that new restrictive measures were possible.
However, he noted, that the new restrictions would not have the same impact on the economy as previous ones, as the EU economy is "more acquainted to these kind of situations.”
