Eurozone's trade surplus grew more than forecast in September

Data published by Eurostat showed that in September, the volume of exports of goods from the eurozone to other countries of the world increased by 10% year-on-year, to 209.3 billion euros, while imports from other countries of the world increased by 21.6% per annum, to 202.0 billion euros. Against the background of the latest changes in imports and exports, the trade surplus of the eurozone amounted to 7.3 billion euros in September compared to +4.8 billion. euro in August and +24.1 billion euros in September 2020. The data also showed that the Intra-euro area trade increased in September by 16.4% per annum, to 191.5 billion euros.

Eurostat reported that since the beginning of the year (in the period from January to September), exports of goods from the eurozone increased by 14.7% compared to the same period in 2020, to 1,775.1 billion euros, while imports increased by 17.7%, to 1,643.2 billion euros. As a result, the trade surplus decreased to 131.9 billion euros from +151.2 billion euros in January-September 2020. The volume of trade within the eurozone in January-September 2021 increased by 19.7% compared to January-September 2020, and amounted to 1 580.6 billion euros.
