French consumer price index fell slightly in September

According to the report from INSEE, in September 2021, the Consumer Price Index (CPI) fell back by 0.2% over one month, after +0.6% in August. The prices of services contracted sharply (−0.8% after +0.4%), due to the seasonal downturn in the prices of certain tourism-related services. Those of food declined (−0.8% after +0.7%) in the wake of those of fresh food (−3.3% after +3.7%). The prices of tobacco edged down (−0.2% after +0.0%) and those of manufactured goods slowed down (+0.8% after +1.1%). In contrast, the prices of energy accelerated (+1.3% after +0.6%) in link with those of natural and town gas (+6.2% after +3.7%).

Seasonally adjusted, consumer prices fell back by 0.1% in September, after +0.4% in August.

Year on year, consumer prices grew by 2.2%, after +1.9% in August. This increase in inflation resulted from the acceleration in service prices (+1.4% after +0.7%) and energy prices (+14.9% after +12.7%). The prices of manufactured goods (+0.4% after +1.1%), and to a lesser extent food (+1.0% after +1.3%) and tobacco (+4.8% after +5.1%) slowed down.
