The Canadian Federation of Independent Business (CFIB) reported on
Thursday that its Business Barometer Short-term Index, which measures small
business confidence based on 3-month forward expectations for business
performance, fell to 54.4 in June from 59.2 in May. This marked the lowest
reading since February (53.8).
Meanwhile, the CFIB’s Business Barometer Long-term Index, which measures the
sentiment based on a 12-month outlook, dropped to 59.4 in June from 61.9 in the
previous month. This was the lowest reading since January (54.7).
Both indicators declined for the third straight month in June.
